Sedation Dentistry
If you are afraid to go to the dentist (dental anxiety), relax. conscious sedation and can change your life for the better! At Southfork Dental, we administer an anti-anxiety agent, such as nitrous oxide, or and/a sedative, in combination with a local anesthetic for pain. During conscious sedation, you will remain calm during treatment, yet rational and responsive to speech and touch. Anti-anxiety agents and sedatives can be administered by mouth and/or inhalation. Because you’ll be completely comfortable, we can do many dental care procedures during the same visit Best of all, you’ll probably only need one or two appointments with a dentist using sedation dentistry. So in hours you can start enjoying the confidence that comes with a bright new smile and good dental health. Just make a request before your scheduled procedure. You will given a prescription the day before your procedure. You will be drowsy, so you will need someone to drive you to and from the appointment.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas," is used for its calming effect. It's a colorless, almost odorless gas that is combined with oxygen, then administered to you through a small mask that covers your nose. It can help to relax you, ease your fear and make you feel more comfortable during your dental treatment.
Nitrous oxide also helps increase your tolerance for lengthy dental procedures, and while it doesn't make any part of your mouth numb, it can decrease your perception of discomfort. There are a few situations where we can't use nitrous oxide, such as if you are pregnant or have an inner ear infection.
The more deeply you breathe through your nose, the more you'll feel the effects of nitrous. We can also adjust the levels to make you more comfortable. Your normal reflexes will all be intact, and you will be able to communicate with us during your treatment. Nitrous oxide is not a replacement for a local anesthetic; the area in your mouth that will be affected by the treatment will still need to be numbed.
Nausea is an occasional side effect of nitrous oxide in children. If you anticipate that your child will need nitrous oxide, please ensure that they have little or no food prior to treatment. Be sure to tell us if your child: is prone to motion sickness, has a respiratory condition that makes breathing through the nose difficult, is taking medication. Within just a few minutes, you will notice its effects.

• Mild tingling in your hands and feet.
• Warm sensations throughout your body.
• The feeling of drifting or floating.
• A disconnection from what is going on around you.
• A dreamlike state

When we turn the nitrous off, and you are receiving pure oxygen through your mask, the effects of the nitrous will quickly subside. You can safely drive after your dental appointment.
Patient Education
At Southfork dental, all our patients get a chance to get educate about their dental treatment. We have patient education video presentations about various procedures, chair side education material and also the experienced friendly staff assist you in making your choices.
Routine Checkups, Preventive Dentistry, Hygiene
People are always encouraged to get a dental cleaning & check up every six months. Tobacco, alcohol consumption, diabetes, pregnancy, periodontal and Gum disease, poor oral hygiene and certain medical conditions are some of the factors that Dr. Kolli takes into consideration when deciding how often you need your dental cleaning & check up. A cleaning will usefully consist of the following:
• scaling, often done by hand to or remove plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces.
• root planning, or clean perio (early signs of gum disease) pockets to stop further gum problems.
• polish, (used to remove heavy stains if any) or the finishing touch of rubbing on the surface of the teeth.
Going to your regular check ups will help to keep your gums and teeth healthy as well as detect any early problems such as gum disease, oral cancer and cavities. The best way to maintain good oral health is to visit your dentist on a regular basis.

Good Reasons To Visit Dr. Kolli D.M.D.. Office For a Checkup and Cleaning !

To Prevent Oral Cancer : In the US alone, a person dies from oral cancer every hour of every day. According to the The Oral Cancer Foundation. It is always best to maintain an every six month check up and cleaning with your dental so that you can also screening you for oral cancer, which is highly curable if diagnosed early.
To Prevent Gum Disease : Patients need to understand the importance of healthy gums. We check all our patients for signs of gum disease. Gum disease is a disease/infection (a chronic bacterial infection) of the mouth and gum tissue and bone that keep your teeth in place; that can go undiagnosed until it is too late, resulting ultimately in the loss of teeth. Regular dental cleanings and check ups, flossing daily and brushing twice a day are key factors in preventing gum disease.
Help Maintain Good Physical Health by visiting your dentist every six months: Studies have linked periodontal (gum disease) with an increased chance of having a heart attack. A dental cleaning every 6 months helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy and could possibly reduce your risk of heart disease and To Detect Dental Problems Early Enough For Treatment.: Dr. Kolli and her hygienist will be able to detect any early signs of problems with your teeth or gums. Early detection of cavities, broken fillings and gum disease are easily treatable. Know the early signs and see your dentist regularly before these problems go untreated and treatments like root canals, gum surgery and removal of teeth become the only treatment options available.
To Take Advantage Of Your Dental Insurance Plan Visit Your Dentist Every Six Months: It is advised that you should visit the dentist once in every six months. Most Dental insurance plans usually pay for all or most of the cost of dental cleanings and check ups every six months. Save money by avoiding costly dental procedures that can result due to poor oral hygiene.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin, plastic films painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth - molars and premolars - and are highly effective in the prevention of tooth decay (caries and cavities). Dental sealants are particularly effective on the back teeth, as the back teeth contain more hard-to-reach pits and grooves that serve as a host to food debris and plaque build-up.

Sport Guards, Night Guards, Snore Guards

Sport Guards: Sports guards are responsible for preventing over 200,000 oral injuries in the United States annually. These oral traumas will happen to children, high school and college level athletes. In fact, dental injuries are the most common type of orofacial injury sustained during participation in sports.
Obviously dental injuries could also be significantly reduced if children, teenagers and adults involved in sports wore custom fabricated mouth guards. These custom-made mouth guards are made by the professional dental office.
According to the American Dental Association, the lifetime dental costs can approach several thousand dollars per tooth (or teeth) in a sporting injury. The total rehabilitation costs for a single knocked-out tooth are more than 20 times the preventative cost for a custom laminated, professional grade mouth guard.
Dental appliances provide a non-invasive (non-surgical) form of treatment for snoring and sleep apnea. Dental appliances are relatively less expensive than some of the other treatment options.

Night Guards: Night guards are small mouthpieces that are primarily worn at night, however may be worn at any time of the day. They can be on the upper or lower teeth depending on the design. They can be made of a soft rubbery material or hard plastic. They work by opening the bite and realigning the TMJ, the jaw joint. This opening relaxes the TMJ and face muscles and equilibrates the bite, allowing side-to-side motion and further release of tension in the muscles. Some of these appliances also reposition the lower jaw forward bringing the TMJ into a better alignment.
The soft night guards are used in patients experiencing grinding or clenching at night. They cushion the bite and help relieve the stress in the muscles. The teeth are also protected from the grinding and wear that would normally occur. Stress is the primary cause of grinding and clenching.
The "orthotic" appliances are used in more severe derangements of the TMJ usually resulting from an accident or a blow to the jaw. These are made of hard plastic and reposition the lower jaw into a better alignment. This allows the muscles and tendons of the TMJ to relax and heal. These are the first line of defense and may need to be followed by surgical intervention.

Snore Guards: A dental appliance for treating Snoring and Sleep Apnea is a small plastic device that is worn at night while you sleep. It is made so the lower jaw is moved forward allowing the airway to stay open during sleep. Dental appliances are generally easy to wear. They generally take only a few weeks to get used to. Its compact size makes it easy to take with you when you travel.
Gum Disease
The good news is that in most people gum disease is preventable.
Patients need to understand the importance of healthy gums. We check all our patients for signs of gum disease. Gum disease is a disease (a chronic bacterial infection) of the mouth that can go undiagnosed until it is too late, resulting ultimately in the loss of teeth. Harmful bacteria are contained in a colorless sticky film called plaque, the cause of gum disease. It is important to realize gum disease not only affects the gums, it also deteriorates the bone, which supports the teeth. Be aware that gum disease does not cause the patient to experience any pain, until it is in its advance stages. Some signs to look for if you think you may have gum disease are bleeding of the gums, bad breath, and roughness of the surfaces of the teeth.

Get The Facts About Gum Disease - Ask Dr. Kolli
There are different stages of treatment available to combat gum disease at SouthFork Dental. Patients diagnosed with gum disease will first see highly qualified dental hygienists, who have been specially trained to treat gum disease and help maintain the health of the patient’s mouth following gum treatments. Attention to everyday oral hygiene (brushing and flossing), coupled with professional cleanings, twice a year, could be all that's needed to prevent gum disease--and actually reverse the early stage--and help you keep your teeth for a lifetime.

Oral Surgery and Extractions
We provide extraction services for teeth that need to be taken out, including impacted and wisdom teeth and badly broken roots. Depends on the need, we may bring in the specialist to our facility for the convenience of our patients. We also provide referrals to Maxillofacial surgeons for complex surgeries.
Tooth Colored Fillings
We provide "white" fillings for teeth. It is important to have cavities filled before they deepen and jeopardize the pulp and possibly end up in an abscess resulting in a root canal or loss of a tooth.
Crown
A crown is a recovery process that covers, or "caps," a tooth to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of that tooth. When a tooth no longer appears strong or looks out of shape or broken down it may be time to consider a crown. Root canals, lost fillings, decay below a filling, chipping and cracking of the enamel are all things that can lead to large scale defects in a tooth's surface. Crowns are also used to support a large filling when there isn't enough of the tooth remaining, attach a bridge, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, or cover badly shaped or discolored teeth. When it appears that the entire surface of the tooth is a problem, but the root system is intact, a crown might be just what the dentist orders.

Tooth crowns add strength, durability and tooth stability.
Many contributing factors can lead to the disintegration, wearing down, cracking or breakage of your teeth i.e., grinding your teeth, an improper bite, age, fillings and tooth decay. Dental Crowns cover the entire visible surface of your affected tooth. If you feel that you may require an examination to see if you require crown, Pls. give us a call . A missing tooth may also be a reason to consider a crown. Crowns are anchored to your teeth on either side, with a bridge section connecting the two crowns. Instead of bridges, single tooth dental implants may be used that eliminate the need for supporting the crowns.

Tooth crowns are usually cemented to your tooth.
First we will make an impression of your tooth to create the crown. This process will take about two weeks. Then the permanent crown is cemented onto your tooth. this process should typically take about two visits. Please be aware that often, a restoration of your tooth may be needed before a crown can be placed. To stabilize your tooth, a filling must first be put in place prior to placing a crown due to the loss of original tooth structure.

Gold, ceramic crowns and ceramic-veneered gold crowns
Gold & metal-ceramic crowns are probably the most durable and are used in molars, where the forces from chewing and grinding are most prevalent. Ceramic crowns are used primarily for front teeth, since they can best resemble the natural tooth color.

Resin and porcelain crowns are nice in appearance.
This crown can be made from pure ceramic or a new reinforced composite resin, and appears like a natural tooth. This bonding process provides an strong bond to your tooth and is metal-free.

Gold Crowns VS. Porcelain Fused To Metal Crowns
If your not so much into appearance gold crowns may be appropriate. The gold metal is extremely workable making gold crowns a more precise fit than any other type. Gold can also be quite costly. While there exists a slight possibility of chipping with porcelain crowns, gold crowns wear more like normal teeth, without harming surrounding teeth.
Porcelain crowns look more like a natural teeth. However, they have a metal substructure and require an opaque below the porcelain. This can make the transparency appearance of the natural teeth difficult to replicate. Occasionally a darker line will be visible at the edge of the crown, near to your gum when it recedes with age.
Inlay & Onlay
Onlays and Inlays are a good option for restoration of teeth. They are effective in particular for fixing the back area of your teeth. An Onlay covers all points while an Inlay is similar to a filling. Both the Onlay and Inlay are formed from a composite resin. This resin is tooth colored and painlessly bonded to the tooth. The resin structurally reinforces the tooth ensuring your smile lasts for a long time.
Bonding
Dental bonding can improve the appearance of teeth, especially teeth that have stains which can't be removed by bleaching. During the procedure, a composite plastic resin is applied to the front surface of the teeth. Dental bonding can also be used to change the shape of teeth including adding length to short teeth.
Bridges
When teeth are missing a bridge a false tooth called a pontic, is the ideal way to replace the missing teeth. When there has been the loss of a tooth or teeth replacement teeth can be attached to two crowns constructed for the 2 teeth on either side of the open space. This is called a bridge because it bridges the open space.
When a tooth is lost 5 or more other teeth may drift so it is essential to place a replacement tooth as soon as possible. The space left from missing teeth may cause one of several problems. Teeth may drift into the space changing your bite, this changed bite may result in sore jaws, gum disease, or decay (due to more difficult hygiene).
A bridge is a fixed prosthetic devices used to replace one or several teeth that have been damaged. The teeth on each end of the space is used to as anchors (abutments). Bridges are not removable by the patient. As with other types of crowns (caps), a bridge can be made of metal or porcelain, or a combination of these two.
If you have missing teeth and have good oral hygiene practices, make an appointment with us to discuss your teeth. If spaces are left unfilled, they may cause the surrounding teeth to drift out of position. Additionally, spaces from missing teeth can cause your other teeth and your gums to become far more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease.
Dentures & Partial Dentures
Dentures are an easy way of replacing missing teeth, and are a lot more affordable than implant or bridge work. However they are removable, meaning that they are not as comfortable as a fixed prosthesis.
We are able to construct dentures for single tooth replacement, partial tooth loss or replacement of all teeth. Dentures are constructed during a few visits to our practice where we take impressions of the mouth and gradually construct a denture to suit every patient’s individual needs.
Root Canals
Nothing is as good as a natural tooth! And sometimes your natural tooth may need root canal (endodontic) treatment for it to remain a healthy part of your mouth.
Most patients report that having root canal (endodontic) treatment today is as unremarkable as having a cavity filled.
If you've been told you need root canal (endodontic) treatment, you can find the answers to your questions below.

What is a root canal?
Underneath your tooth’s outer enamel and within the dentin is an area of soft tissue called the pulp, which carries the tooth’s nerves, veins, arteries and lymph vessels. Root canals are very small, thin divisions that branch off from the top pulp chamber down to the tip of the root. A tooth has at least one but no more than four root canals.

Why do I feel pain?
When the pulp becomes infected due to a deep cavity or fracture that allows bacteria to seep in, or injury due to trauma, it can die. Damaged or dead pulp causes increased blood flow and cellular activity, and pressure cannot be relieved from inside the tooth. Pain in the tooth is commonly felt when biting down, chewing on it and applying hot or cold foods and drinks.

Why do I need root canal therapy?
Because the tooth will not heal by itself. Without treatment, the infection will spread, bone around the tooth will begin to degenerate, and the tooth may fall out. Pain usually worsens until one is forced to seek emergency dental attention. The only alternative is usually extraction of the tooth, which can cause surrounding teeth to shift crookedly, resulting in a bad bite. Though an extraction is cheaper, the space left behind will require an implant or a bridge, which can be more expensive than root canal therapy. If you have the choice, it’s always best to keep your original teeth.

What happens after treatment?
Natural tissue inflammation may cause discomfort for a few days, which can be controlled by an over-the-counter analgesic. A follow-up exam can monitor tissue healing. From this point on, brush and floss regularly, avoid chewing hard foods on the treated tooth, and see your dentist regularly.
Porcelain Veneers a cosmetic treatment
Veneers fix front teeth, whiten teeth, close spaces and create a great smile. SouthFork Dental concentrates on fixing spaces between the teeth, broken or chipped teeth, stained or washed-out fillings, stained or discolored teeth.
Porcelain veneers are instant procedure for orthodontics to straighten smiles, close spaces, reshape, and minor realignment of a patients teeth. Veneers are thin and bonded on the front of your anterior teeth (Your centrals, laterals, and cuspids. These are the teeth in the front of your mouth).
Dentists use some of the same techniques to bond plastic resins for smile corrections. They have a natural strength, beauty, and durability of healthy teeth. Veneers have several advantages over crowns (caps). There is no "dark line" that is sometimes seen with older front caps. They transmit light better and, therefore, have a more translucent appearance giving a natural, esthetic look. Veneers do not require the massive grinding of tooth structure that caps do, yet, they accomplish a life like esthetic result.
Dr. Kolli will examine your teeth and establish what can or can not be done at your first appointment. This appointment usually involves some minor contouring of the front teeth and taking an impression of the teeth. The veneers are placed in, and, if satisfactory, they are bonded in place.
A follow up visit is made in a weeks time upon which Dr. Kolli also combine whitening / bleaching with porcelain veneers to make that your smile perfect. If some front teeth are badly broken down, we can place porcelain crowns combined with veneers and other cosmetic techniques.
Whitening
Tooth whitening is a procedure that lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration. Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth at much less cost and inconvenience than other techniques.

At Southfork Dental we do provide three different methods of teeth whitening

1. In office Whitening Solution (The Zoom! teeth whitening system)
If you are in hurry and want your teeth whiter right now, we recommend the Zoom in-office technology. This is the technology seen on ABC's television hit series "Extreme Makeover".

The procedure begins by painting the lips and gum tissue with a protective coating. The clinician then applies the Zoom whitening gel to the tooth enamel surface, and places the Zoom activation light near your mouth. The Zoom activation light allows the solution to gently penetrate the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration.
Combined with the home bleaching system, your whiter smile will sparkle for years. Learn more about Zoom bleaching at www.discusdental.com.

2. At Home Bleaching System (Whitening Trays Solution -Custom Trays)
Whitening trays have been a very common practice of teeth whitening and in-expensive procedures of all the three. We provide custom tray fabrication and take home whiteing gel. The process will require approximately 2 days for trays to be fabricated after your initial molding appointment. You can expect results within 2 to 3 weeks.

3. Deep Bleachingtm (Extreme Whitening Technique)
This is the ultimate bleaching/whitening procedure. If you have extremely dark, stained teeth or just looking to get your teeth the brightest you can get them, this is the procedure for you. At this point in time, this is the absolute best way to achieve a long lasting brighter smile.

How does it work?
• At your first appointment. We inital impressions for a customize whiteing trays.
• At the second appointment, you will go throught the first in office whitening session.
• This is followed by at home whitening for about 2-4 weeks. 4.At the final appointment, we do the final in office whitening session and seal off the teeth.

General Whitening Questions
Provided by: Academy of General Dentistry
Your wedding is coming up and you want your smile to be its brightest. Or maybe you have an important speaking engagement. Whatever the reason, tooth bleaching isn't just for the movie stars, and it isn't just for one day. Many people have had their teeth bleached, and probably millions more are thinking about it. The desire for a brighter smile with whiter teeth is very strong, and tooth bleaching safely lightens the color of the teeth, lasting for up to five years. The most effective and safest method of tooth bleaching is dentist-supervised.

Is bleaching for you?
Generally, bleaching is successful in at least 90 percent of patients, though it may not be an option for everyone. Consider tooth bleaching if your teeth are darkened from age, coffee, tea or smoking. Teeth darkened with the color of yellow, brown or orange respond better to lightening. Other types of gray stains caused by fluorosis, smoking or tetracycline are lightened, but results are not as dramatic. If you have very sensitive teeth, periodontal disease, or teeth with worn enamel, your dentist may discourage bleaching.

How long will it last?
Lightness should last from one to five years, depending on your personal habits such as smoking and drinking coffee and tea. At this point you may choose to get a touch up. This procedure may not be as costly because you can probably still use the same mouthguard. The retreatment time also is much shorter than the original treatment time.

How does it work?
The active ingredient in most of the whitening agents is 10 percent carbamide peroxide (CH4N2O2), also known as urea peroxide; when water contacts this white crystal, the release of hydrogen peroxide lightens the teeth.

Is it safe? Any side effects?
Several studies, during the past five years, have proven bleaching to be safe and effective. The American Dental Association has granted its seal of approval to some tooth bleaching products. Some patients may experience slight gum irritation or tooth sensitivity, which will resolve when the treatment ends.

What are realistic expectations?
No one can really predict how much lighter your teeth will become. Every case is different. Typically, there is a two-shade improvement as seen on a dentist's shade guide. The success rate depends upon the type of stain involved and your compliance. Bleaching can only provide a shift in color from gray to a lighter shade of gray, for example. Bleaching does not lighten artificial materials such as resins, silicants, or porcelains.

Implants
There are several types of implants available on the market today to provide single teeth replacement and to provide a complete set of non-slip secure dentures.

Non Slip & Secure Dentures!
The mini-implants from Intra-Lock's MDL Mini Implant System provides a non-slip full or partial denture to be attached to the stable mini-implants resulting in a natural looking set of teeth that are secure, non-slip and allows you  to bite and chew food you would normally not be able to with standard dentures.

Tooth Replacement!

For single teeth replacement, Nobile Biocare allows a natural looking tooth to be securely attached.  With this solution, there is no more discoloration around the gum lines as the implant is designed to enhance Soft Tissue Integration™, and provide more natural looking esthetics

Braces
Braces are retainers, bonded brackets, arch wires and elastic bands that move crowded or spaced teeth into a "normal" position for appearance, prevention and function. With Braces, over a period of time, teeth will shift if constant, gentle pressure is applied. Brackets are bonded to the front surface of each tooth and wires are attached to the brackets with elastic bands. The slight tension on the wire is gently transferred to the bracket through the elastic band. Braces are not only fork kids, adults may also need them to are to correct problems with their bite. They recognize the benefits of reduced wear, reduced incidence of TMJ problems, and increased self-esteem. Major adjustments must be done with braces, but some adjustments can actually be done without braces!

Invisible Braces
Adult "invisible braces" (which are not really braces at all, but clear plastic retainers) are a new technique for adults to obtain the results of braces without wearing braces! This technique, which is effective only for mild to moderate crowding, utilizes a series of retainers (computer generated or lab constructed) that are worn sequentially until the desired correction is achieved.
Retainers
Once the teeth have been moved into proper position, a retainer is sometimes used to keep the teeth in place until they have "settled". Retainers can be fixed (bonded to the teeth) or removable.
